Car Seat Rules

Car Seats - Rear or Forward Facing? Booster Seats? Front Seat Ready?

How do you best keep your child safe while they ride in the car?

The recommendations can be confusing. Babies should ride rear-facing in the back seat until they are at least 2 years old (or reach the highest weight & height allowed by the car seat); after that, they should ride front-facing in a car seat with a harness until they reach the upper limit of height & weight for that car seat.

Kids can then sit in a belt-positioning booster seat (still in the back seat) until they are 4 foot 9 inches tall and are 8-12 years old. Children younger than 13 years should not ride in the front seat of the car.
